So I can’t believe I’m writing this, its been six years since I started my Mommy Only Has 2 Hands blog. It used to be on blogger at a blogspot address. Then I made the jump to purchase a domain name, I tried hard to get mommyonlyhastwohands.com, or mommyonlyhas2hands.com, but someone was sitting on that one and the .net addresses, having established my brand I reluctantly chose the .org address. Then after a while I realized that WordPress would work so much better for all the things I hoped my site would accomplish, so last year I made the blogger to WordPress transfer.
Now I’m making my last leap….the leap to a .com and I’ve always kinda wanted my name in my domain address. So I finally have both! Boy am I glad another Heather out there didn’t discover heartfullyheather.com before I did. Yay for me!
Anyway blogging here has opened up so many doors for me. Its brought in business opportunities I never imagined I’d have. When I dappled in selling Avon and Origami Owl and didn’t do so well with those things, blogging always did. So you maybe wondering since MOHTH is doing so well, why I’m changing my domain? Well because I want to broaden my niche or change it if I need to without an entire domain change once again. I figured if I have this blog/website 20 years from now when my blog is not about “mommy” related things anymore, that’s when my blog will start to fail. I want to make sure I have a domain address that will grow with the times and I know it will at heartfullyheather.com
So while this crazy six year chapter of my life is ending at this addresss here, its moving on…all my old content is currently being moved over to the new address. We are packing up and leaving MOHTH behind….I’m kinda sad about it, but at least I get to take the memories with me when we go and I finally get my .com address I’ve always wanted.
Now I started this whole domain transfer process a few days ago, I’m taking it nice and slow and working through all the kinks first. MOHTH will still be here floating around on the internet for the next year, but it will soon be redirected.
Have you ever done a domain name transfer on wordpress? If you are scared about the process, I got some awesome help from this website here: https://fizzle.co/sparkline/move-wordpress-to-another-domain It helped make the whole process a little smoother. (At least I think it has), I’m still in the data transfer process phase. (Fingers crossed)
My advice to you is to sit on on both domains for awhile to make sure it goes smoothly, make sure your old domain isn’t due to expire for awhile that way you can have a smooth transition over.
When I get the other site restored from this one, I will answer any questions anyone has about the process, in the mean time wish me luck on my moving day!
